Opinion: How Orile Police Division, Lagos, Kidnapped My Friend and Me

On November 2, 2025, Caleb Okechukwu and his friend, Humble Chris, were allegedly abducted in Lagos under the pretense of a police operation. According to Caleb, they were forced into a Sienna bus by heavily armed men wielding AK-47 rifles. The men did not identify themselves or allow the victims to verify their identities, warning them that “your English won’t save you.”

Caleb claims the victims were driven to the Orile Police Station, where they were held incommunicado and treated violently. Their phones and belongings were seized, and they were allegedly pressured to get someone to pay a ransom. The detainees were reportedly brutalized, and some sustained physical injuries.

He singled out specific officers, including Inspector Mary Abimbola and another officer named Kally, as being rude, unprofessional, and violent. Caleb credits intervention from individuals such as Jabulani, Ebuka Sly, Akaeze Igbakwu, Bro Johnson, and the leadership of Oduade Market, Lagos, for securing their release.

Caleb emphasized the personal and financial toll of the ordeal, including losses from being disconnected from clients. He also noted that attempts to contact the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, went unanswered.

The piece concludes as a warning about unprofessional conduct within law enforcement, urging officers to perform their duties with integrity and humanity.
