AAUA Students Protest Tuition Fee Hike

Students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State have protested the upward review of tuition fees announced by the institution’s management ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session.

The new fee structure reportedly affects both fresh and returning students, with the Students’ Union Government (SUG) describing the increase as “sudden and inconsiderate.”

In a statement jointly signed by SUG President, Salami Akeem; General Secretary, Bakare Jamiu Abiodun; and Public Relations Officer, Mosadoluwa Ajidaba, the union said the hike had caused “fear and dismay” among students, particularly those who are self-sponsored.

“We are not unconscious of the increment in school fees, which has left many in dismay. Consultations are ongoing to seek a reduction. Students, especially the newly admitted, are advised not to make any payment or proceed with registration until positive results are achieved,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the university management has announced that academic activities will begin on November 9, according to a statement signed by the Registrar, Mr. Olugbenga Arajulu.

The statement directed fresh and returning students to resume as scheduled, with online screening and registration set for November 9–15, physical resumption and course exposition between November 16–22, and lectures commencing November 23.

The registrar noted that the first semester will run for 19 weeks, covering registration, lectures, revision, and examinations.

Arajulu urged students to comply with the approved academic calendar and ensure prompt payment of fees to facilitate a smooth academic process.
