Actress Doris Ogala Seeks N1bn from Pastor Chris Over Alleged Breach of Marriage Promise

Lagos-based Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has formally demanded N1 billion in aggravated damages from Pastor Chris Okafor, founder of Grace Nation Liberation City, for allegedly breaching a promise to marry her. The demand, dated December 16, 2025, was sent via her lawyers, Synergy Law Partners, warning of legal action if Pastor Okafor does not comply within 21 days.

Ogala claims the promise, made in 2017, formed the basis of a long-term personal relationship. Her lawyers allege the commitment was reinforced through introductions to the cleric’s family, public appearances, and digital communications, including WhatsApp messages, photographs, videos, and banking records.

The actress contends she relied on the promise to her detriment, ending a troubled marriage and granting Pastor Okafor access to her finances, including a N45 million transaction. The dispute escalated when Pastor Okafor publicly announced his engagement to another woman, allegedly causing emotional distress, reputational harm, and public scrutiny for Ogala.

While acknowledging that marriage cannot be forced, her lawyers argue that Nigerian law provides remedies for breach of promise and aggravated harm, and demand N1 billion in general and aggravated damages. The case is set to proceed to court if the sum is not paid within the stipulated 21 days.

Attempts to reach Pastor Okafor for comment were unsuccessful.
