Legendary Nigerian musician Innocent Idibia (2Face) has reflected on the dual impact of his iconic hit “African Queen.” While the 2004 release propelled him to international stardom, earning him BET, MTV Europe, and MOBO awards, he admits the song has been both a blessing and a burden.
Speaking on an episode of the Entertainment & Lifestyle show, 2Face said:
“African Queen has been a very huge blessing, and e come turn to problem join for me. But I am grateful for everything.”
The song has also been a source of controversy for over two decades. 2Face’s former bandmate Blackface has repeatedly claimed authorship, alleging that 2Face stole the song. While 2Face acknowledges that the track was originally a collaboration with his former bandmates, he denies stealing it.
Recently, the debate resurfaced after Billboard named “African Queen” the greatest Afrobeats song of all time in August 2025, reigniting discussions about its legacy and authorship.
