ÀKÀTÈ: Ini Moses Ushers in a New Era for Edo Cinema

The Edo film scene is undergoing a cultural and cinematic revival with the release of ÀKÀTÈ, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ini Moses. The film is making waves across Nigerian cinemas, celebrated for its rich cultural storytelling and dynamic cast.

ÀKÀTÈ brings together one of the most culturally diverse ensembles in recent Edo filmmaking history, marking a pivotal moment for the state’s growing cinema culture. Moses described the movie as “a creative bridge between established Nollywood veterans and the rising Edo creative force.”

The production deliberately combined Nollywood legends, Edo-based actors, viral content creators, and national stand-up comedy stars to craft a story that authentically represents Edo culture while appealing to a global audience. “We wanted a film that feels like home, looks like home, and sounds like home,” Moses said. “ÀKÀTÈ is not just a movie; it’s a movement—a revitalization of Edo creative identity. Working with such a diverse cast allowed us to blend experience, raw talent, culture, and humor into a compelling narrative.”

The cast features Nollywood icons like Charles Inojie, Edo-born talents such as King Zina, and popular comedians and content creators who add a modern and relatable touch to the project.

“One of our key goals was to showcase the strength and talent of Edo creatives to the world,” Moses added.

With ÀKÀTÈ, Edo cinema is stepping confidently onto a larger stage, offering audiences both at home and abroad a vibrant glimpse into the state’s storytelling potential.
