Alec Baldwin, 67, and his brother Stephen Baldwin, 59, were involved in a car accident on Monday, October 13, when their vehicle collided with a tree in East Hampton, New York. The crash occurred amid a powerful nor’easter impacting the greater New York City area, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and coastal flooding from North Carolina to New Jersey.
According to reports from Page Six and TMZ, Alec was driving a white Range Rover SUV when the accident occurred. Video footage from the scene shows the SUV’s hood significantly damaged after striking the tree. Despite the impact, both brothers exited the vehicle safely and without any major injuries. Alec wore a gray polo shirt and pants paired with black sneakers, while Stephen donned a camouflage raincoat layered over olive-green sweatpants and denim shorts.
The Baldwin brothers were in the Hamptons to attend the Hamptons International Film Festival, which ran from October 5 to October 13. Alec, who serves as co-chair of the festival’s Board Executive Committee, had previously visited Buffalo, New York, to attend part of the Buffalo International Film Festival on October 11.
In a video posted on Instagram after the accident, Alec recounted the incident. He said a large garbage truck had cut him off on the road. “It must have been something commercial, taking away material from a construction site. It was the biggest garbage truck I’ve ever seen,” he explained. In an effort to avoid hitting the truck, Alec swerved, hitting a “big fat tree” instead. “I crushed my wife’s car,” he added, referring to Hilaria Baldwin’s vehicle, which sustained significant damage.
Alec expressed gratitude toward the East Hampton police officers who responded, describing them as “as nice as can be and pleasant about the whole thing.” He also reassured fans, saying, “I’m fine, my brother’s fine,” and shared plans to fly to Los Angeles to reunite with family.
The nor’easter has caused widespread travel disruptions, including flight cancellations in Boston and New York City, as well as fallen trees that have obstructed power lines and roadways. The storm contributed to the hazardous driving conditions that led to the Baldwin brothers’ accident.
Photos from the scene show Alec and Stephen speaking with police and leaving the vehicle unharmed, ending immediate concerns for their safety.
