Alec Baldwin, 67, and his brother Stephen Baldwin, 59, were involved in a car accident on Monday, October 13, when their vehicle collided with a tree in East Hampton, New York. The crash occurred amid a powerful nor’easter affecting the greater New York City area, bringing heavy winds and rain that caused coastal flooding, downed trees, and travel disruptions.
According to reports from Page Six and TMZ, Alec was behind the wheel of a white Range Rover SUV when the accident occurred. Footage captured at the scene shows the vehicle’s hood severely damaged from the impact. Despite the dramatic scene, both brothers exited the car safely without any major visible injuries. Alec was dressed in a gray polo shirt and pants with black sneakers, while Stephen wore a camouflage raincoat layered over olive-green sweatpants and denim shorts.
The Baldwin brothers were in the Hamptons to attend the Hamptons International Film Festival, which ran from October 5 to October 13. Alec, who serves as co-chair of the festival’s Board Executive Committee, had also made a brief stop in Buffalo, New York, to participate in the Buffalo International Film Festival on October 11.
In a video shared on Instagram following the incident, Alec recounted the moments leading up to the crash. He explained that a large garbage truck had cut him off on the road. “It was the biggest garbage truck I’ve ever seen,” Baldwin said. “I swerved to avoid hitting it and hit a big fat tree. I crushed my wife’s car. I’m fine, my brother’s fine.”
Alec expressed gratitude to the East Hampton police officers who assisted at the scene, describing them as “as nice as can be and pleasant about the whole thing.” He also mentioned his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, whose car sustained significant damage in the accident. Despite the crash, Alec reassured fans that he was heading to Los Angeles to reunite with family.
The nor’easter responsible for the accident has caused widespread disruptions across the East Coast, from North Carolina to New Jersey, closing airports in Boston and New York City and bringing down trees that occasionally blocked power lines, according to the Weather Channel.
Photos from the scene show the Baldwin brothers speaking with police and walking away from the crash safely, putting an end to immediate concerns about their well-being.
