Amid Feud With Tejashwi, Rohini Acharya Heads to Mumbai: “Just Disowned My Brother”

Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, intensified her criticism of Tejashwi Yadav and his close aides on Sunday, reiterating that she has “disowned” only her brother while leaving politics and moving temporarily to Mumbai.

Acharya, who recently quit the Rashtriya Janata Dal after alleging mistreatment by Tejashwi’s associates, spoke to reporters before departing for her in-laws’ home in Mumbai. She said her parents and sisters were firmly supporting her.
“Whatever I had to say, I’ve already said on social media. I have not lied about anything. You may ask Tejashwi Yadav, Sanjay Yadav, Rachel Yadav, and Rameez. My father has always stood by me,” she told ANI.

She said she was shifting to Mumbai because her mother-in-law was “extremely worried” about her amid the turmoil. Acharya is married to a Singapore-based software engineer.
“My parents and sisters were crying for me yesterday… I have just disowned my brother. My parents and my sisters are with me,” she said.

Background of the Rift

Acharya resigned from the RJD just a day after the party’s poor showing in the Bihar Assembly elections, where its tally plunged from 75 seats to around 25. Her exit followed public allegations that she faced abuse and even an attempt to hit her with a slipper during a confrontation allegedly involving Sanjay Yadav, now an RJD Rajya Sabha MP, and Rameez, a long-time aide to Tejashwi.

Tej Pratap’s Dramatic Reaction

The controversy also reignited tensions with her elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, who was expelled from the RJD and disowned by the family earlier this year. Reacting through the Janshakti Janata Dal’s social media account, Tej Pratap said the episode had “shaken [his] heart to the core”.

He said he had tolerated previous attacks but could not accept the humiliation of his sister, warning of “harsh consequences”. Addressing Lalu Prasad directly, he wrote: “Father, give me a signal — just one nod — and the people of Bihar will bury these Jaichands.”

Tej Pratap also accused “a few faces” of influencing Tejashwi’s judgment and framed the dispute as a fight for “the dignity of a daughter and the self-respect of Bihar”.

His remarks revived discussion around his own past controversies, including the Facebook post that led to his exit from the party and renewed public focus on issues surrounding his troubled marriage and ongoing divorce case with Aishwarya Rai.
