Martyr Kartar Singh Sarabha’s Native Village to Get ₹45.84-Crore Facelift: Punjab CM Mann

Ludhiana: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday paid floral tributes to freedom fighter Kartar Singh Sarabha on his martyrdom anniversary and announced development projects worth ₹45.84 crore to transform his native village into a model heritage site.

Speaking at a state-level event in Sarabha village, Mann said the initiatives will include improved infrastructure, clean drinking water facilities, sports amenities, and defence training infrastructure. “This will be a true tribute to Kartar Singh, who embraced martyrdom at the age of 19. The state government will leave no stone unturned in developing his native place as a model village,” he said after visiting the martyr’s ancestral home.

Kartar Singh Sarabha, a key figure of the Ghadar Movement, was executed in Lahore Central Jail on November 16, 1915. Mann said his courage and sacrifice continue to inspire generations.

The Chief Minister also urged people to participate in the commemorative events at Anandpur Sahib from November 23–25, marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

Outlining specific projects, Mann announced:

  • ₹40 crore for widening the Lalto Kalan–Sarabha–Raikot–Halwara road into a four-lane stretch, improving connectivity to Halwara airport
  • ₹2.82 crore for a surface water supply scheme
  • ₹2 crore for a 10-metre indoor shooting range
  • ₹10 lakh to renovate the basketball court
  • ₹3 lakh to upgrade the volleyball court and install concrete benches
  • ₹89 lakh for upgradation of the forest nursery
