Australia Stun India with Record Run Chase in Women’s World Cup 2025

Visakhapatnam, India – October 12, 2025:
Alyssa Healy’s brilliant century powered Australia to a record-breaking victory over India in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, as the defending champions chased down 331 to win by three wickets in Visakhapatnam.

Healy led from the front with a stunning 142 off 107 balls, smashing 21 fours and three sixes. Her partnership with opener Phoebe Litchfield (40) gave Australia a strong start, before Ellyse Perry added vital runs despite retiring hurt midway through the innings.

India fought back through spinners Deepti Sharma and Shree Charani, who triggered a mini-collapse, but a determined Perry returned to the crease late in the chase. With Kim Garth at the other end, she sealed the win with a towering six, keeping Australia unbeaten in the tournament.

Healy was named Player of the Match and praised her team’s composure, saying, “To chase down 330 in a 50-over game is new territory for us—hopefully, we don’t have to do it again.”

India’s Missed Opportunities

For India, it was a case of another strong start slipping away. Smriti Mandhana rediscovered her form with a blazing 80 off 66 balls, becoming the fastest woman to reach 5,000 ODI runs. She and Pratika Rawal (75) put on a 155-run opening stand before wickets fell regularly in the middle overs.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur admitted her side lost momentum late in the innings. “Not batting well in the last six overs cost us,” she said. “The openers have been outstanding, but we need to improve in the middle overs.”

Annabel Sutherland’s five-wicket haul and Sophie Molineux’s three wickets helped Australia bowl India out for 330 in 48.5 overs.

With the win, Australia returned to the top of the points table with seven points from four matches. India stay third, behind England, with a crucial game against them in Indore next Sunday. Australia next face Bangladesh at the same venue on Thursday.
