Kyiv, October 12, 2025 — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has pledged that any US-supplied Tomahawk missiles would be used solely against Russian military targets, following Moscow’s warning of potential escalation.
In an interview aired on Fox News, Zelenskyy said his government would use the long-range weapons “responsibly” if Washington approved their transfer. The statement came after his second phone call in two days with US President Donald Trump, which he described as “very productive,” focusing on air defence and long-range capabilities.
Trump told reporters he would agree to send Tomahawks “only if I know what they’ll be used for,” adding he had “sort of made a decision” on the issue. The missiles have a range of up to 2,500km (1,550 miles), capable of reaching deep into Russian territory.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov called the possibility of Ukraine acquiring the weapons “extremely concerning,” noting some variants can carry nuclear warheads. “Tensions are escalating from all sides,” he warned.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron condemned new Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy grid and urged Moscow to return to peace talks. Zelenskyy said he asked Macron for more air defences, warning that Russia is exploiting global attention on the Middle East.
Ukraine reports that in the past week alone, Russia has launched more than 3,000 drones and nearly 100 missiles, striking energy infrastructure across the country. Two workers were injured in overnight attacks near Kyiv, and widespread power outages were reported following one of Russia’s largest strikes this month.
