Bashir Ahmad Shares How GTBank Reversed Accidental ₦5M Transfer

Former Presidential Aide Bashir Ahmad has recounted how he mistakenly transferred ₦5 million to the wrong bank account—and how prompt intervention saved the day.

In a post on X, Ahmad explained that the incident happened early in the morning when he accidentally sent the large sum to an unintended recipient. Realizing the error, he immediately contacted GTBank’s customer care line to report the issue.

Before he could complete the complaint process, Ahmad received a notification from the bank stating that the transaction had failed. The message explained that the account he had mistakenly sent the money to was not authorized to receive such a high amount.

Minutes later, the entire transaction was reversed, and the funds were restored to his account.

Ahmad expressed gratitude for the bank’s swift response and robust safeguards, tweeting:

“I mistakenly made a N5 million transfer to a wrong account this morning. When I realized the error, I quickly called the GTBank hotline to lodge a complaint. Before I could finish the process, a message dropped from the bank notifying me that the transaction had failed because the account I mistakenly sent the money to wasn’t authorized to receive such an amount. Minutes later, the bank reversed the transaction. God bless GTBank.”

The incident highlights the importance of strong banking safeguards and quick action when errors occur.
