BIC champions teacher empowerment, sets new Guinness World Record

Global stationery brand BIC has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing education in Nigeria by celebrating and empowering teachers at the “Let There Be Teachers” Conference held in Lagos.

The landmark event, which set a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of teachers, served as a platform to highlight the central role of educators in nation-building and to explore ways to strengthen Nigeria’s education system.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), BIC reiterated its pledge to enhance learning conditions and promote access to quality education. The company’s global goal is to positively impact 250 million students by 2025 through investments in classroom tools, creative learning environments, and teacher empowerment.

Speaking at the event, BIC Nigeria General Manager, Anthony Amahwe, said education remains the foundation of national progress.

“Education is at the heart of BIC’s DNA. It is the backbone of growth and the key to building sustainable, creative, and productive societies,” Amahwe stated.
“Now, more than ever, we must strengthen education—not only as a path to employment but as a tool for self-expression and deep understanding of our world.”

Government officials and education stakeholders also lent their voices to the conversation. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, underscored the need to address systemic challenges in the education sector, insisting that teachers must remain central to reform efforts.

Panel discussions and keynote sessions explored themes such as teacher empowerment, classroom innovation, educational leadership, and policy reform—all geared toward repositioning the teaching profession for national development.

The conference reinforced BIC’s global initiative, “Writing Our Future, Together,” which inspires millions of students across over 180 countries to take action for a sustainable and creative future.

In Nigeria, the initiative continues to shape classrooms by supporting teachers, training educators, and improving learning environments through partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and educational foundations.

For over 80 years, BIC has been known for its commitment to producing high-quality, affordable, and reliable writing tools. With a presence in more than 160 countries and a workforce of over 13,000, the company continues to champion education as a catalyst for societal transformation.
