The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, has cautioned the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) against turning the university into a venue for protests or gatherings, warning that it will not tolerate any unauthorized activity on campus.
In a statement jointly signed by the SUG President, Adio James; General Secretary, Alao Ayorinde; and Public Relations Officer, Abiola David, the union said FUOYE remains an academic institution dedicated to learning and research—not a platform for political mobilisation or agitation.
“The attention of the SUG has been drawn to the proposed protest by the NYCN within or around our university premises. FUOYE is an environment of learning and development, not a ground for external mobilisation,” the statement read.
The union described the planned protest as “unauthorized, unnecessary, and capable of disrupting the peace and stability” that the campus currently enjoys. It also warned that any attempt by the NYCN or other groups to hold demonstrations without official approval would be considered provocation and met with firm resistance.
“The Students’ Union, being the constitutionally recognised representative body of FUOYE students, will resist any external attempt to infiltrate or use our institution for actions that may cause unrest,” the statement added.
The SUG demanded that the NYCN suspend its plans immediately, insisting that such activities would not contribute to improving student welfare or campus life.
It also pledged to work with the university management and security agencies to ensure the protection of the institution’s peace and integrity.
“Any disregard of this warning will attract disciplinary and legal consequences. FUOYE remains committed to peace, stability, and dialogue in the pursuit of progress,” the statement concluded.
