Bishop David Oyedepo: “I’ll Never Join Politics, Even for $1bn”

Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Living Faith Church, has made a strong declaration, stating that he will never participate in partisan politics, regardless of the financial incentive offered.

Speaking during an impartation service at Shiloh 2025 at the church’s headquarters in Canaanland, Ota, Ogun State, the bishop revealed that even a sum as large as $1 billion would not sway him to enter politics, as it is not part of his calling.

Key Points from Oyedepo’s Statement:

  • Politics is Not His Calling: Oyedepo emphasized that joining partisan politics goes against his divine purpose and calling. He firmly stated that no amount of money, including the staggering sum of $1 billion, would persuade him to change his stance. His exact words:
“Partisan politics is off my calling. If you give me $1 billion to join politics, I won’t, because it is off my course.”
  • A Warning from 2015: The bishop reflected on his warning to the church in 2015, where he had predicted that trouble was coming to the nation, a forecast that, according to him, has now come to pass.
  • Divine Intervention Needed: Bishop Oyedepo also highlighted the urgency for divine intervention in the world today, noting the groaning of the world in darkness. He referenced Romans 8:19, which speaks of creation eagerly awaiting the manifestation of the sons of God, suggesting that believers are being prepared as end-time soldiers to provide solutions to the nation’s and the world’s crises.
  • Biblical Examples: He drew parallels between the current challenges and the biblical stories of figures like Joseph and Daniel, who, despite being in positions of influence in secular governments, were guided by divine wisdom to provide godly solutions.

Oyedepo’s Vision for the Church’s Role

According to the bishop, the church is meant to be a beacon of light and a source of divine solutions in a world that is increasingly struggling with challenges. He believes that the church’s mission is to prepare believers, not for political office, but for fulfilling God’s purposes in addressing the urgent issues facing both Nigeria and the broader world.

Bishop Oyedepo’s stance reflects his long-held belief that spiritual leaders should focus on their divine missions and steer clear of partisan politics, which he sees as being outside the realm of his calling. His message serves as a reminder of the church’s broader spiritual mandate, which he believes is to bring about transformation through godly influence rather than political power.
