Several Nigerian soldiers were injured after terrorists ambushed troops on their mission to rescue kidnapped schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
The attack came just 24 hours after Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, ordered Operation Fasan Yamma forces to go “all out” against the bandits responsible for abducting students of Government Girls Secondary School, Maga.
“You must continue day and night fighting. We must find these children,” Shaibu directed. He further instructed commanders to carry out intelligence-driven operations, stressing the importance of acting professionally and decisively.
Troops mobilized immediately for the rescue operation but were caught in an ambush. Video footage obtained shows injured soldiers lying on the ground without immediate medical assistance, while their operational vehicle was riddled with bullet holes.
One soldier, speaking in Hausa, was heard saying, “Musa has a bullet lodged in his leg. His condition is very bad.”
Authorities have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties, but the attack underscores the ongoing dangers faced by troops on missions to rescue abducted schoolchildren.
