A 28-year-old Cameroonian, Ondigui Nnomo Germain, was discovered in Osogbo, Osun State, on Tuesday after escaping from individuals he feared intended to harm him.
Germain rushed into the Osun Amotekun Corps headquarters at Powerline around 11 a.m., pleading for protection from men he said had been pursuing him.
According to him, he was brought to Nigeria from Ahala Barriere in Yaoundé by a Nigerian who promised to help him secure employment. Germain said he sold some of his belongings to raise money for the trip after the man insisted he must contribute financially.
His suspicion grew on Monday when the man who brought him, accompanied by several associates, visited him at a hotel along the Osogbo/Ikirun Road. Their strange behavior, he said, made him doubt the authenticity of the job offer.
“I noticed he had guys stationed everywhere — even at the border. That’s when I became afraid,” Germain said.
He recounted being taken to a hotel room where multiple men attempted to convince him about the supposed job. “It felt like a voodoo circle. They all had rings except the man who brought me,” he added.
Sensing danger, he quietly escaped from the hotel, but the men pursued him in a vehicle as he ran through the streets of Osogbo. He eventually hid in an abandoned building overnight before finding his way to the Amotekun office early Tuesday morning.
Speaking through a mobile phone translator, Germain said: “I sold my belongings and gave him the money he demanded. We arrived in Nigeria three days ago. When they took me for an interview, I saw many people in the room and realized something was wrong.”
He told Amotekun officials that he wanted nothing more than to return safely to Cameroon. “If you can accompany me to the border through Buea because they have guys along the road, I will reach Cameroon. I fear for my safety,” he pleaded.
Reacting to the incident, Osun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, advised that the matter be formally reported at the nearest police station.
DAILY POST learned that Amotekun officers escorted Germain to the Obelawo Police Post, where he officially lodged his complaint.
