Brendan Rodgers Appointed as Al-Qadsiah Manager in Saudi Pro League

Former Celtic and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been officially named as the new head coach of Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah, signaling a major move in his managerial career.

Rodgers, who has previously managed clubs including Liverpool, Leicester City, and Celtic, left Celtic in October 2025 following his second spell at the Scottish club, during which he secured back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles. His departure was surrounded by controversy, with Celtic majority shareholder Dermot Desmond describing Rodgers’ behaviour as “divisive, misleading, and self-serving,” sparking debate among fans and media alike.

Rodgers’ Appointment at Al-Qadsiah

Al-Qadsiah’s chief executive James Bisgrove, formerly of Rangers, described Rodgers’ appointment as a “landmark moment” for the club. Speaking to club media, Bisgrove said: “The calibre of his experience and track record of winning reflects our ambition and long-term vision to establish Al-Qadsiah as one of Asia’s leading clubs.”

Rodgers will be joined by former Celtic coaching staff John Kennedy and Jack Lyons, bringing continuity and expertise to the Saudi side. The new manager replaces Michel, the Spanish coach who left after more than two years in charge.

Al-Qadsiah’s Current Squad and Ambitions

Al-Qadsiah currently sit fifth in the Saudi Pro League after nine games this season, with notable players including former Real Madrid defender Nacho and Italian striker Mateo Retegui. Rodgers faces the challenge of improving the squad’s consistency and helping Al-Qadsiah compete at the top of the league while implementing his tactical philosophy.

Rodgers’ experience in Europe, particularly in the Premier League and Scottish Premiership, is expected to bring a professional approach and high standards to Al-Qadsiah. The club aims to leverage his expertise to strengthen both domestic performance and regional recognition.

Rodgers’ Career and Managerial Track Record

Brendan Rodgers has built a reputation for tactical innovation and team-building during his career. He guided Liverpool to a close Premier League title challenge in the 2013–14 season, and later led Leicester City to Europa Conference League qualification. At Celtic, Rodgers dominated Scottish football, winning consecutive league titles and domestic cups during his second spell.

With this move to Saudi Arabia, Rodgers joins a growing trend of European managers exploring opportunities in the Middle East, reflecting the region’s ambitions to attract top-tier coaching talent and develop competitive football leagues.

Looking Ahead

Rodgers’ appointment at Al-Qadsiah signals a new chapter for both the club and the manager. Fans will be watching closely to see how he adapts his style to the Saudi Pro League and whether he can translate his European success to Asia. With his experienced backroom staff and a talented squad, Al-Qadsiah hope to challenge for top positions in the Saudi Pro League and establish themselves as a regional powerhouse under Rodgers’ leadership.
