Chief Whip Hails Federal Government Over $4.29bn PPP Approval for Cross River

The Chief Whip of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Chief Hilary Bisong, has commended the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for approving over $4.29 billion in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) investments for the state, describing the decision as a major boost to economic growth and infrastructure development.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Bisong said the approval reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructure expansion, private-sector–driven investment, and sustainable development planning.

He noted that the decision aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to rebuild investor confidence, attract private capital, and reposition Nigeria as a competitive player in global trade.

According to Bisong, one of the flagship projects under the PPP arrangement is the Bakassi Deep Seaport, which he described as a critical national asset.

He explained that the deep-water port is designed to accommodate large commercial vessels, ease congestion at existing ports, and strengthen Nigeria’s maritime and logistics capacity.

Bisong added that the project is expected to stimulate industrial activity, enhance export competitiveness, and deepen the country’s integration into global value chains.

The lawmaker also commended Governor Bassey Otu for what he described as his consistent leadership and strategic alignment with national development priorities, noting that the governor’s collaboration with the Federal Government was instrumental in securing the approval.

He expressed optimism that the PPP projects would unlock significant economic opportunities for Cross River State and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s long-term development goals.
