The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-General Waidi Shaibu, has reassured Nigerian Army personnel that their welfare remains a top priority under the current administration. He also pledged to tackle the ongoing challenges of accommodation in Army barracks nationwide.
The COAS made the assurances during visits to troops of the 82 Division at the Division Headquarters in Enugu and the Forward Operations Base in Ivo, Abia State.
According to Army spokesperson Lt.-Colonel Apollonia Anele, Lt.-Gen. Shaibu commended the soldiers for their dedication in maintaining security across the Division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR), noting that their sacrifices have significantly improved the security landscape in the South East.
“He assured them that their welfare remains a top priority and encouraged them to take pride in their service to the nation,” the statement said.
The Army Chief also attended the closing ceremony of the 2nd Regimental Sergeant Majors’ (RSM) Convention 2025 in Enugu as Special Guest of Honour. Highlighting the critical role of RSMs as the bridge between officers and soldiers, Lt.-Gen. Shaibu described them as the moral compass of discipline and regimentation in the Army.
Themed “RSM Roles in Operational Readiness and Combat Effectiveness,” the convention provided a platform for meaningful discussions aimed at strengthening leadership, regimentation, and discipline across all Army formations and units. Maj.-General Isa Abdullahi, Chief of Administration (Army) and event organizer, lauded the RSMs for their commitment and dedication.
During his visit to Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, the COAS commended the state’s residents for their continued support of the Army and other security agencies. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to proactively addressing national security challenges, stressing that sustained collaboration with security agencies and the public will eventually make insecurity a thing of the past.
