COREN Commends AbdulRazaq for Promoting Local Content in Engineering Projects

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has lauded Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his consistent support of local contractors and indigenous professionals in the state’s construction and engineering sectors.

In a letter addressed to the governor in October 2025, the Kwara State Chairman of COREN, Engr. Bashiru Lawal, praised AbdulRazaq’s “deliberate policy of patronising local professionals and contractors,” describing it as a strong endorsement of COREN’s advocacy for local content and the empowerment of indigenous firms.

“On behalf of COREN Kwara State Office and the entire engineering community in the state, we express our profound appreciation to Your Excellency for your exemplary commitment to empowering indigenous contractors through the recent award of contracts, particularly the engagement of Messrs CPN for the construction of the Ojoku–Ilemona Road,” the statement read.

Lawal noted that the governor’s approach not only enhances local capacity but also drives job creation, technology transfer, and sustainable development within the state.

“Your consistent support for local content development in the construction and engineering sectors stands as a testament to your dedication to inclusive growth and the overall economic advancement of Kwara State,” the letter added.

The council commended AbdulRazaq’s leadership for setting a model other states and public institutions could emulate, pledging COREN’s continued partnership to uphold professional and ethical standards in all engineering-related projects across the state.

At a recent press briefing, Commissioner for Works, AbdulQuawy Olododo, disclosed that over 70 percent of construction projects in Kwara are currently executed by local contractors, a development he said has deepened community participation and boosted the state’s economy.
