The Cross River State Government has inaugurated a major digital literacy and capacity-building program aimed at transforming its civil service into a fully paperless, technology-driven workforce by the end of 2026.
The initiative, called Civil Service Technology Empowerment for Capacity and High Performance (CIVTECH), was flagged off by the Head of Service, Orok Okon, at Prof. Eyo Ita House in Calabar. The training began with Directors and Deputy Directors of Administration (Cohort 1: Nov 4–6), followed by other civil service cadres in subsequent weeks.
Okon explained that the program, developed in collaboration with CR-MEDA, is part of the state government’s vision for a modern, efficient public service and a full transition to e-governance.
CR-MEDA officials highlighted that the training is designed to improve efficiency, productivity, and service delivery across all levels of government. Permanent Secretary Glory Odu Oji noted administrators were prioritized due to their role in managing data and implementing policies.
Participants, including Dr. Icha Mboto and Dr. Pamela Ekuri, praised the initiative as forward-thinking and transformative, noting its benefits for current and future civil servants.
