Dangote Refinery Denies Shutdown Claims, Confirms 50 Million Litres Daily Petrol Output

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed reports suggesting it is shutting down for maintenance, calling the claims “false and misleading.” In a statement on Monday, the refinery confirmed that operations remain stable and uninterrupted.

The refinery said it continues to produce between 40 million and 50 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily, depending on market demand. On January 4, it reportedly produced 50 million litres of PMS and evacuated 48 million litres via its gantry, maintaining stock levels sufficient for over 20 days of national consumption.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery clarified that routine maintenance on certain units, including the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Residual Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) units, does not disrupt overall production due to the sophisticated design of its integrated processing system. Other units, including the Naphtha Hydrotreater, CCR Reformer, and Hydrocracker, remain fully operational, producing PMS, Diesel (Automotive Gas Oil), and Jet A-1.

The refinery emphasized that its ex-gantry PMS price of N699 per litre remains available to all marketers and bulk buyers. It encouraged local sourcing, highlighting that domestically refined fuel is more affordable, reliable, and supports market stability, foreign exchange conservation, and broader economic recovery.

The statement also criticized fuel importers for spreading false shutdown reports to justify recent petrol price increases. Dangote Refinery noted that without local refining, fuel prices could rise to as much as N1,400 per litre in a post-subsidy scenario, underlining the stabilizing role of domestic production.

Reiterating its commitment to Nigeria’s energy security and economic growth, the refinery urged stakeholders and the public to rely on verified sources and continue patronizing locally refined petroleum products.

“Dangote Petroleum Refinery will continue to act in the national interest by supplying high-quality, locally refined petroleum products while supporting Nigeria’s economic stability, energy independence, and industrial growth,” the statement concluded.
