Dhirendra Shastri on ‘I Love Muhammad’ Row: Supports Slogan, Calls for Mutual Respect, Warns ‘Hindus in Danger’

Spiritual leader and self-styled seer Acharya Dhirendra Krishna Shastri of Bageshwar Dham addressed the ongoing controversy over the “I Love Muhammad” slogan, stating that he supports the slogan but emphasized mutual respectbetween communities.

  • Mutual Respect:
    Shastri said, “We supported it. But when I say ‘I Love Mahadev’, you should not have any problem. And secondly, do not make statements like ‘Sar Tan se Juda’. This is against the law of the country and the Constitution.” He reiterated that his stance promotes idea-based debates, not violence.
  • Hindus in Danger:
    Shastri asserted, “Hindu khatre mein hi hai” (Hindus are indeed in danger), citing alleged atrocities, declining population, and lack of pride among Hindus in some states. He urged Hindus to unite and awaken, emphasizing grassroots connection from village to village and street to street to ensure community survival and strength.
  • Padyatra Announcement:
    He announced a 10-day padyatra from Delhi to Vrindavan starting November 7, aimed at promoting Hindus, Hindutva, and Hindustan, while rejecting casteism and fostering unity. He clarified the initiative is inclusive, not directed against Muslims or Christians.
  • Radicalism and Violence:
    Shastri explained his concept of radicalism:“If radicalism does not involve violence against anyone, then it is okay. Radicalism does not mean violence; it means protecting oneself… Radicalism means promoting your culture. It is a law of the Constitution that you can freely propagate your culture, your Sanatan.”
    He condemned acts like temple destruction, cow slaughter, or burning religious texts in the name of radicalism as foolishness.
  • On Hindu Festivals:
    Shastri questioned why Hindu festivals are singled out for criticism over pollution or celebrations, pointing out:“When fireworks are used for cricket wins, political victories, or Christmas, no one objects. But why lecture only on Hindu festivals?”
