Popular DJ and music producer Imohiosen Patrick, professionally known as DJ Neptune, has voiced concern over the trend of sidelining veteran artists in the Nigerian music industry.
He argued that creatives are often pushed aside once they reach certain milestones, describing it as a structural issue within the industry.
“In Nigeria, once you reach a certain level, they push you aside like, ‘Oya, go to that corner, we’re done with you.’ It’s a structural problem. Abroad, the OGs remain as relevant as the newbies. We need to address this,” DJ Neptune said in a recent interview with Hip TV.
On maintaining his own relevance over the years, he added:
“Although I don’t plan to do this all my life—when it’s time to take a bow, I will. But over the years, I’ve learned when it’s time to reinvent myself. That’s life. Things change, and you need to move with the times.”
