DSS Investigates Arms Found in Ex-AGF Malami’s Kebbi Residence

The Department of State Services (DSS) has launched a fresh investigation after arms and ammunition were reportedly discovered at the Kebbi home of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN).

The weapons were initially uncovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during a search of Malami’s residence. However, as the EFCC’s mandate does not cover illegal arms possession, the items were handed over to the DSS for a comprehensive probe.

Malami remains in custody at Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, having not yet met the conditions of his bail granted last week alongside his wife and son. Sources told reporters that Malami has deliberately slowed the bail process to avoid immediate arrest by DSS operatives, who had reportedly besieged the prison in connection with terrorism-related investigations.

“The former minister is being separately investigated for allegedly having arms in his house in Birnin Kebbi. The inventory of the shock find has been handed over to the DSS,” a security source confirmed.

The EFCC emphasized that the investigation into Malami is not new, tracing back to previous administrations since 2019. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede affirmed that the case was inherited and remains part of ongoing probes into the former AGF’s activities.

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Abuja last week ordered the interim forfeiture of 57 assets linked to Malami and his sons, valued at over ₦213 billion. The court gave the family 14 days to prove lawful ownership, warning that failure to do so may lead to permanent forfeiture to the Federal Government under the Non-Conviction Asset Forfeiture provisions.

Malami’s legal team has yet to perfect bail conditions, keeping him in custody while DSS investigations continue.
