Police Place Nationwide Commands on Alert Over Planned ‘Occupy Nigeria’ Protest

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has placed all commands nationwide on high alert following intelligence about a planned nationwide protest by the Occupy Nigeria Movement. The demonstration, tagged “Day of Presence,” is set for Monday, January 12, 2026, and is expected to target all Government Houses across the country, as well as strategic locations in Abuja, including Unity Fountain and Eagle Square.

A wireless message from the Force Headquarters’ Department of Operations (DOPS), dated January 11, 2026, was addressed to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in Zones 1–17, Mobile Police units, and all state commissioners of police. The directive instructed commanders to implement preventive security measures to avert any breakdown of law and order.

“Intel available to Nigpol DOPS revealed that a group called Occupy Nigeria Movement has perfected plans to stage a nationwide protest tagged Day of Presence on Monday 12/01/2026,” the message stated.

The NPF emphasized professional conduct, strict adherence to rules of engagement, and respect for human rights during the operation. Officers deployed for the assignment were also instructed to wear camouflage uniforms until a stand-down order is issued.

The message, classified “Security General” and marked “M/Immediate,” highlighted the urgency of the directive and the seriousness with which the force is treating the planned protest.
