Dubai, November 18, 2025 – Etihad Airways has placed an order for 15 Airbus A330-900 aircraft, boosting its wide-body fleet as the Abu Dhabi-based carrier targets ambitious growth goals, CEO Antonoaldo Neves announced on Tuesday at the Dubai Airshow 2025.
The order includes six A330-900 aircraft to be purchased directly from Airbus (AIR.PA) and nine to be leased from Dublin-based leasing firm Avolon, according to Neves. The expansion is part of Etihad’s strategy to increase fleet capacity and support its long-term growth plans.
Etihad Fleet Growth Plans
With the new Airbus A330s, Etihad aims to reach a total fleet size of 200 aircraft, exceeding its previous target of 170 planes by 2030. The airline is also acquiring seven Airbus A350-1000s, increasing its total for this aircraft type to 27, and adding three A350F freighters to strengthen cargo operations.
Neves highlighted the importance of the Airbus A330neo in Etihad’s operations, noting its flexibility in route management and operational efficiency. The aircraft is central to the airline’s ability to meet growing passenger demand across regional and international routes.
Strategic Implications for Etihad Airways
The acquisition of additional A330s and A350s reflects Etihad’s commitment to expanding both passenger and cargo capacity, particularly in the competitive Middle Eastern aviation market. Analysts say the move aligns with the airline’s broader fleet modernization strategy, aimed at improving fuel efficiency, reducing operational costs, and offering enhanced passenger experience.
Financial details of the purchase were not disclosed. The A330-900 and A350 series aircraft are part of Airbus’ latest generation of wide-body planes, known for improved fuel efficiency, longer range, and lower environmental impact, supporting Etihad’s sustainability initiatives.
