Residents of Oremeji in the Shasha area of Alimosho Local Government, Lagos State, were thrown into fear after a Nigerian Air Force officer was stabbed during a scuffle with local street boys.
The incident occurred on Sunday, November 9, when the officer, reportedly out of uniform, got into a dispute with boys playing football after the ball hit him. According to residents, the officer grabbed the ball, beat the boy who kicked it, and later pulled a knife during the escalating confrontation. Some of the boys trying to intervene were injured.
“A fight broke out, and one of the boys overpowered him and stabbed him. At that point, nobody knew he was a military officer. They rushed him to the hospital,” said a resident.
Following the scuffle, Air Force personnel from Shasha base reportedly entered the community to search for the boy involved and his family. Residents claimed that officers assaulted locals, fired tear gas, and caused shops to close early out of fear.
However, the Lagos State Police Command clarified that the officer survived the stabbing and received treatment. Police also said the alleged harassment by Air Force personnel was not accurate, noting that the Divisional Police Officer intervened to restore peace.
Efforts to reach the Nigerian Air Force spokesperson for comment were unsuccessful.
