Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana spoke at the nationwide protest led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), condemning rising insecurity, poverty, and government inaction on constitutional duties.
During the Lagos demonstration, Falana called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of 400 individuals allegedly financing terrorism, arrested under the Buhari administration in 2021 but never tried. He stressed that Nigeria has the human and natural resources to secure itself without foreign intervention.
Falana also alleged massive financial diversion within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), citing an audit showing ₦210 trillion diverted, and demanded recovery of the funds for national welfare. He urged the government to implement social investment programmes, provide cash transfers to vulnerable citizens, and ensure funding for state welfare initiatives.
He further warned that insecurity cannot be resolved militarily alone and stressed the importance of addressing poverty, unemployment, and social justice to achieve lasting security.
