
Nigerians are living in fear following a spate of killings and abductions across multiple states over the past week. Nearly 200 people have been kidnapped in attacks spanning Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Kaduna, and other areas.
Key incidents include:
- Nov 15, Zamfara: Attack on Fegin Baza village; 3 killed, 64 abducted.
- Nov 16, Zamfara: Tsohuwar Tasha village attacked; 14 abducted (11 women, 3 children).
- Nov 17, Kebbi: 25 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga; Vice Principal Malam Hassan Makuku killed.
- Nov 17, Kaduna: Attack in Kushe Gugbu; Catholic Priest Rev Fr Bobbo Paschal kidnapped; Rev Fr Anthony Yero killed.
- Nov 18, Kwara: Attack on Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku; 3 worshippers killed, 30 abducted.
- Nov 18–19, Borno: Attack on military base in Mayenti; 4 vigilantes killed, 4 soldiers missing.
- Ambush on troops rescuing Kebbi schoolgirls, injuring several soldiers.
Public reaction:
- Citizens are avoiding public gatherings, including places of worship. Some churches are considering online services to reduce exposure.
- Pastor Taiwo Olalekan of RCCG in Abuja stressed that fear is driving the population to prioritize safety over trust in security agencies.
Government response:
- President Bola Tinubu postponed trips to the G20 Summit in South Africa and AU-EU Summit in Angola to focus on the security crisis.
- Additional security personnel were deployed to Eruku, Kwara, and reports are being received from state authorities.
The nation remains tense as both civilians and security forces continue to face unprecedented attacks by terrorists and bandits.
