FEC Approves N58bn for 200 Electric Buses, Industrial Policy, and Aviation Upgrades

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved several key projects in industry, trade, and aviation, including the purchase of 200 electric buses, the adoption of a new national industrial policy, and upgrades to airport navigational and safety systems.

At a briefing after the meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu, Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment John Eno said the electric buses, procured for the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), will cost N58 billion and mark a major step in Nigeria’s automotive and green mobility efforts.

Council also approved the construction of a new Bank of Industry headquarters at Eko Atlantic City for N187 billion and endorsed the Nigerian Industrial Policy 2025, which aims to attract global partners and guide the nation’s manufacturing and diversification agenda.

On trade, Eno noted approvals for internal and access roads at the Lekki Medical Tourism Park and confirmed Nigeria as host of the next Intra-African Trade Fair, with Lagos as the host city.

Meanwhile, Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo announced approvals for aviation infrastructure and safety upgrades, including:

  • Maintenance support and local training at Aminu Kano International Airport.
  • Installation of Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems at Lagos and Abuja airports.
  • Construction of modular air traffic control towers at eight airports.
  • Upgrades of air-ground radio systems at nine airports.
  • Expansion of biometric-enabled electronic gates at all international airports.

Keyamo emphasized that these initiatives reinforce Nigeria’s aviation safety standards, stating:

“Our airspace is now one of the safest in Africa, and the President continues to insist that Nigerians must fly safely.”
