Abuja, Nigeria – The Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has defended Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo amid controversy surrounding his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday in Abuja, Agbese described the allegations as politically motivated attempts to distract the minister from his duties.
He highlighted that since taking office, Tunji-Ojo has implemented several reforms within the Ministry of Interior, including measures to clear passport backlogs, improve service delivery, and enhance operations in the Nigeria Immigration Service and Correctional Service.
Agbese emphasized that the minister’s initiatives have boosted efficiency in key agencies, particularly in automation, staff welfare, and revenue generation.
He urged critics to allow due process to take its course rather than resorting to what he described as trial by public opinion.
“If there are questions, let the institutions of state handle them — not political jobbers or social media mobs. Governance is not about gossip; it’s about delivery. Every citizen can see the difference the Interior Ministry is making — faster services, cleaner processes, and greater accountability,” Agbese said.
The lawmaker maintained that performance should be the primary measure of public service, warning that unverified allegations risk undermining ongoing reform efforts within the ministry.
