Jelly Roll Admits to Infidelity in Emotional Podcast Interview
Country star Jelly Roll is speaking candidly about one of the most painful chapters in his life — cheating on his wife, Bunnie Xo. The “Save Me” singer revealed on the Oct. 21 episode of the Human School podcast that being unfaithful to his wife was “one of the worst moments” of his adult life, a mistake he says he’s worked hard to make right.
“One of the worst moments of my adulthood was when I had an affair on my wife,” said the 40-year-old performer. “It was the first time I was like, ‘I really can’t get this right at all. I know I’m in love with this woman.’ It just really, really blew me back.”
Jelly — whose real name is Jason DeFord — has been married to Bunnie Xo (real name Alyssa DeFord) since 2016. The couple, who recently celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary, have faced their share of ups and downs but now say they are stronger than ever.
“We’re Stronger Than We Could Have Ever Been”
Reflecting on the affair, Jelly Roll shared that he has put in “a lot of work” to rebuild trust with his wife and heal their marriage.
“I wish our story would’ve gone the way where there was never an affair,” he said. “I’m in no way glad it happened — but man, I’m proud of who we are today. We’re stronger than we could have ever been.”
Jelly explained that during that difficult time in his life, he surrounded himself with the wrong crowd — people whose toxic habits influenced his own decisions.
“I was hanging around a bunch of people that were cheating on their wives. When I was doing cocaine, I was hanging around people who were doing cocaine,” he confessed. “I used to be proud of long-standing friendships just because they had a number attached to them. Horrible humans. Now, I only want to be around people I want to be like.”
Bunnie Xo Previously Alluded to Their 2018 Split
While Jelly didn’t offer specifics about when the affair occurred, Bunnie Xo previously hinted at a rough patch in their relationship. In a 2024 TikTok video, she revealed that the couple briefly split in 2018 before reconciling.
“Who knew that us breaking up in 2018, me moving back to Vegas & you coming to get me back — would have put us on this wild journey called life,” she wrote. “Our castle in the sand had to crumble so we could rebuild on solid ground.”
Their renewed commitment led to a deep bond that both often describe as “ride or die.” The couple renewed their vows in 2023 at the same Las Vegas chapel where they were married in 2016 — a full-circle moment that symbolized forgiveness and fresh beginnings.
“My World Shrunk When I Focused on One Woman”
In a previous interview with People magazine, Jelly praised Bunnie for her unconditional support and loyalty.
“She’s the person who shows up when the chips are down,” he said in 2024. “I prioritize family, and that’s what anchors me down. My world shrunk when I focused on one woman.”
This focus, he explained, helped him transform both personally and professionally, grounding him as he rose to fame in country and rock music circles.
