Wanya Morris Slams TLC’s Chilli for “False” Babyface Comments: “It’s a Lie”

Wanya Morris Responds to Chilli’s Claims About Boyz II Men and Babyface

Boyz II Men singer Wanya Morris is setting the record straight after TLC’s Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas made a resurfaced claim suggesting the iconic R&B group once said they “didn’t need” legendary producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds.

In a clip from a 2017 interview that recently resurfaced on social media, Chilli discussed a “particular group” that achieved major success working with Babyface but allegedly decided to move forward without him — a decision she implied led to their downfall. Many fans quickly assumed she was referring to Boyz II Men, who collaborated with Babyface extensively during the 1990s.

Chilli, 54, remarked in the interview:

“They had great success with Babyface. [They said], ‘We don’t need Babyface,’ and that was the end.”

She added, “It’s not that this artist didn’t have talent, but because he thought he could do it on his own, that’s where he failed. As long as you’re living, there’s always something to learn.”

Wanya Morris Fires Back: “That’s Not True”

Upon seeing the clip reposted by @nostalgiamoments on Oct. 20, Morris, 52, jumped into the comments to directly refute the claim.

“Damn Sis 😢 Lisa would never 🥺???” he wrote, referencing the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes of TLC.

The Boyz II Men member went on to question the validity of Chilli’s story, writing:

“Bro, I’m just trying to figure out where she got this story from… Chilli was nowhere around our organization… and we were nowhere around theirs; besides going on tour 🤔.”

Morris also pointed out that the group has continued to work with Babyface long after their chart-topping collaborations in the ’90s, including hits from their diamond-certified 1994 album II.

“I keep seeing this and it blows my mind every time 🤯🤷🏾‍♂️,” he added. “I’m calling Babyface tomorrow to see if he remembers us saying we didn’t need him — especially because he’s been on every project since.”

“What Chilli and Dallas Are Saying Is a Lie”

In a follow-up comment, Morris clarified that he wasn’t attacking Chilli personally but wanted to defend Boyz II Men’s reputation and their relationship with Babyface.

“I’m not saying we were perfect or that everyone had to love us,” he said. “I’m just saying that what Chilli’s and Dallas [Austin] are speaking on, concerning our friend Babyface… IS A LIE 😂😂.

Morris emphasized his desire for fairness, saying, “They spoke on the circumstance and we didn’t. I just want our point to be heard.”

The History Between TLC, Boyz II Men, and Babyface

Boyz II Men and Babyface share one of R&B’s most iconic partnerships. Babyface produced and wrote several of the group’s biggest hits, including “End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love to You,” and “Water Runs Dry.”

The Philadelphia-based quartet also crossed paths with TLC throughout their careers. Both groups toured together as opening acts for MC Hammer’s Too Legit to Quit Tour in 1990, co-headlined the Budweiser Superfest Tour in 1995, and reunited in 2022 for a joint performance at the Hollywood Bowl.

While Chilli’s resurfaced comments reignited fan debate, Morris’s swift and passionate response made it clear that he stands by Boyz II Men’s enduring respect for Babyface — and that no such disrespect ever occurred.
