Jewar, November 1, 2025: A major milestone has been achieved for the upcoming Noida International Greenfield Airport in Jewar as a calibration flight conducted by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) successfully landed at the facility, marking a crucial step toward its full operational clearance.
The touchdown of the specially equipped aircraft was captured on video and quickly circulated on social media, highlighting a significant moment in the airport’s journey to becoming a functional aviation hub. The successful calibration flight signifies that the airport’s navigation and communication systems have been tested for accuracy, a prerequisite before commencing commercial operations.
Significance of the Calibration Flight
A calibration flight is a specialised procedure carried out to ensure that an airport’s Instrument Landing System (ILS), radar, and air navigation equipment meet international aviation safety standards. During such flights, aircraft outfitted with advanced measurement instruments perform multiple test maneuvers at varying altitudes and angles. This allows engineers and air traffic control specialists to assess the strength, stability, and precision of signals transmitted by the airport’s ground-based systems.
Officials from the Uttar Pradesh government explained that the data captured during the flight is meticulously analyzed to detect any technical deviations, which can then be rectified to guarantee the highest level of system accuracy. The process involves coordinated efforts from flight inspectors, technical engineers, and ATC personnel to ensure that all systems are fully functional and compliant with global standards.
“The successful completion of the calibration flight marks a major step forward for Jewar airport, bringing it closer to meeting international aviation safety standards and expediting the process of securing operational clearance,” a government statement said.
Political and Public Reaction
Jewar BJP MLA Dhirendra Singh expressed pride over the milestone, emphasizing that the airport is now closer to welcoming its first passengers.
“Today is a historic day for Jewar, as the calibration flight landed at Noida International Airport. Just a few days ago, the Chief Minister visited and urged all officials to move forward with the airport’s construction. After the calibration flight landed today, there are no longer any obstacles preventing it from receiving flight permission. I am hopeful that the public will soon be able to board aeroplanes from here,” Singh said.
About Jewar Airport
The Noida International Airport is set to become one of India’s largest airports and a major hub for the Delhi-NCR region once operational. While the exact date of its inauguration has not been announced, the airport’s first phase will span approximately 1,334 hectares, featuring one runway, a single terminal building, and a passenger capacity of 12 million annually.
Officials have indicated that the airport is designed to handle large-scale air traffic efficiently, positioning it as a crucial infrastructure project to support the growing aviation demands of northern India.
With the successful calibration flight, the airport has now completed a key technical step toward operational readiness. This development brings the region closer to a major improvement in air connectivity, promising convenience and enhanced travel options for residents of Delhi-NCR and beyond.
The coming months are expected to focus on final system checks, regulatory approvals, and trial operations, paving the way for Jewar Airport to officially commence commercial flights and become a new gateway for air travel in India.
