Hyderabad, November 1, 2025: An IndiGo flight operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad was forced to divert to Mumbaion Saturday after the Hyderabad airport authorities received a security threat alleging the presence of a “human bomb” on board.
According to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) officials, the threat was communicated via email at approximately 5:30 am. The email explicitly warned authorities to prevent the flight, IndiGo 6E 68, from landing in Hyderabad. It also contained alarming references to a potential attack allegedly planned by LTTE-ISI operatives, citing a “1984 Madras Airport Modus operandi style blast,” according to reports by PTI.
Following standard security protocols, airport and airline authorities immediately acted on the threat. The flight, carrying passengers from Jeddah, was diverted safely to Mumbai, where the aircraft landed without incident.
An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the security alert and subsequent diversion, stating, “A security threat was received for IndiGo flight 6E 68 operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad on November 1, which prompted the aircraft’s diversion to Mumbai. Following established protocol, we immediately informed the relevant authorities and fully cooperated in carrying out the necessary security checks before the aircraft was cleared for further operations.”
The airline emphasized that passenger safety remained the top priority and that all required measures were taken to handle the situation efficiently. Authorities have reportedly initiated an investigation to verify the source and credibility of the threat.
This incident comes amid heightened security vigilance at Indian airports, especially in response to email threats involving explosives or potential terror activities. Flights across major cities frequently follow diversion and evacuation protocols in such cases to ensure passenger safety.
While no explosive device was found on board, the diversion caused temporary disruptions for the affected passengers. Investigators are coordinating with intelligence and security agencies to trace the origin of the threat email and determine any potential motives behind it.
Airline and airport officials have reassured the public that no passengers or crew were harmed during the incident and that IndiGo will continue its operations as per schedule once all safety protocols are completed.
