Jharkhand Police Arrest 266 Maoists, Kill 32, 30 Surrendered Till September-End

Ranchi, October 14, 2025: The Jharkhand Police have intensified their operations against Maoist insurgents across the state, resulting in the arrest of 266 Maoists, the death of 32, and the voluntary surrender of 30 cadres till the end of September this year, a senior police official said on Tuesday.

Arrests and Key Maoist Leaders

The arrested Maoists include members holding senior positions within the Communist Party of India (CPI) and its splinter groups, such as two regional committee members, one zonal commander, two sub-zonal commanders, and nine area commanders. The arrests reflect the police’s ongoing efforts to dismantle the Maoist hierarchy and curb insurgency in Jharkhand.

Among those killed in encounters with security forces were prominent rebels Vivek alias Prayag Manjhi and Anuj alias Sahdev Soren, both central committee members of the CPI. Each carried a bounty of ₹1 crore, highlighting the high-profile nature of the operations.

Surrenders of Maoist Cadres

A total of 30 Maoists surrendered to the security forces during this period. Those who laid down arms included zonal commander Ravindra Yadavsub-zonal commander Anand Singh of CPI, and sub-zonal commander Lavlesh Ganjhu alias Lokesh Ganjhu of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad. The surrenders indicate the increasing pressure on insurgents due to sustained operations and outreach initiatives by law enforcement agencies.

Seizure of Arms and Explosives

The Jharkhand Police also reported a significant seizure of arms and ammunition during the nine-month period from January 1 to September 30. The haul included:

  • 157 firearms, including 58 weapons looted from the police
  • 11,950 cartridges
  • 18,884 detonators
  • 394.5 kg of explosives
  • 228 improvised explosive devices (IEDs)

Additionally, 37 Maoist bunkers were destroyed, crippling the operational capabilities of the insurgents. The police also recovered ₹39.53 lakh in levy amounts extorted by Maoists from local populations.

Cybercrime Crackdown

Apart from counter-insurgency operations, Jharkhand Police have intensified cybercrime enforcement this year. From August to September, a total of 128 FIRs were registered against cybercriminals, leading to the arrest of 105 individuals.

During these operations, police seized:

  • 128 mobile phones
  • 166 SIM cards
  • 60 ATM cards
  • 15 bank passbooks
  • 2 laptops
  • 11 cheque books
  • ₹2.81 lakh in cash

These measures demonstrate the state police’s dual approach, tackling both violent insurgency and digital crimes, ensuring law and order across the state.

Police Statement

IG and Jharkhand Police spokesperson Michael Raj S highlighted the sustained operations as part of the government’s commitment to maintaining security and countering Maoist activities. He said the police would continue intelligence-driven operations, combing actions, and community engagement to reduce the influence of insurgents and strengthen public safety.
