Jim Belushi Says Late Brother John Belushi ‘Visits’ Him in Dreams: ‘He Was Sweet to Me’

Actor Jim Belushi opened up about feeling the presence of his late brother, comedy legend John Belushi, more than 40 years after John’s untimely death. The Blues Brothers star and original Saturday Night Live cast member died in 1982 at age 33.

Jim Belushi Reflects on Dream Visits

In a recent interview with Variety, Jim, 71, described vivid dreams in which he still shares the stage with John, recalling their early days at Second City, the famed Chicago comedy theater:

“I have dreams once in a while where he and I are acting at Second City,” Jim told the outlet.

He continued, sharing a lighthearted memory from the dreams:

“We were on stage together, and he was so funny that I cracked up, eating the scene in front of everybody. I got so mad at him, because that’s the worst thing you can do, is break character, right? But he was just so funny, and he goes, ‘Ah, come on, kid!’ He was sweet to me. So, I still get little visits.”

Remembering John Belushi’s Iconic Career

John Belushi, who passed away at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles on March 5, 1982, was celebrated for his work on SNL and as half of the Blues Brothers with Dan Aykroyd. The duo released a double-platinum album and starred in the 1980 hit film The Blues Brothers.

Jim reminisced about seeing John perform live with Aykroyd, particularly their opening for Steve Martin in 1978 at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles:

“It was magic! And John was so, so magnificent. I loved that moment, to see my brother just hit the top of his chart,” Jim told PEOPLE.

He also remembered John’s first on-air Blues Brothers performance at SNL Studio 8H:

“When John and Danny entered that first time, nobody knew what was going to happen. That cartwheel, boy, does my brother know how to make an entrance.”

John Belushi’s Legacy

John Belushi’s widow, Judy Belushi-Pisano, reflected on his life before her passing in July 2024:

“John wasn’t perfect, but he was a full human being—caring and adventurous and kind. And he not only made people laugh. He made them feel.”

Jim’s recollections highlight the enduring bond between the Belushi brothers and John’s lasting impact on comedy and pop culture.
