Judiciary Workers Suspend Three-Month Strike in Osun State

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Osun State chapter, has suspended its nearly three-month-long strike, directing all members to resume work from Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

The announcement was made on Monday in Osogbo by the state chairman of the union, Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran, following what he described as notable progress in resolving long-standing welfare and promotion-related grievances affecting judiciary workers.

“In view of recent developments, I hereby announce the suspension of the industrial action embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, Osun State Branch, since September 19, 2025,” Adeniran said in a statement made available to journalists.
“The suspension takes effect from December 16, 2025.”

Reason for the Suspension

Adeniran explained that the decision was taken to enable union members participate in ongoing promotion exercises and to give the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) the opportunity to formally address outstanding issues.

According to him, the suspension will allow judiciary staff appear before the JSC for the 2024 promotion exercise, while the management of the three arms of the Osun State Judiciary submits the list of staff eligible for promotion in 2025.

“These issues are scheduled to be addressed on Wednesday, December 17, 2025,” he said.

Progress on Workers’ Demands

JUSUN members had been on strike since September 2025 over unresolved welfare concerns, including delayed promotions. Efforts to resolve the impasse had previously stalled due to the inability of the JSC to convene.

Providing an update, Adeniran disclosed that the JSC has resumed sittings and has begun correcting some of the issues raised by the union.

“We are pleased to inform our members that the Judicial Service Commission has rectified the promotion of junior staff for the 2024 exercise,” he said, commending the Commission for its prompt response.

He added that affected workers have been invited to appear before the Commission as part of the promotion process.

“Members involved in the 2024 promotion exercise are to appear before the JSC on Tuesday, December 16, 2025,” Adeniran said.
“Those affected by the 2025 promotion exercise are expected to appear on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.”

Stakeholders’ Intervention

The JUSUN chairman attributed the breakthrough to the intervention of key stakeholders, including the Department of State Services (DSS), the state judiciary, and labour leaders.

He disclosed that a meeting convened by the Osun State Director of the DSS brought together the Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Adepele Ojo; the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Oluwole Jimi-Bada, SAN; and labour representatives.

“That meeting played a significant role in the progress achieved so far,” Adeniran noted.

He expressed gratitude to the DSS for facilitating dialogue and easing tensions.

“We sincerely appreciate the Director of the DSS, Osun State, Mr. Kehinde Ayoola, FSI, and his team for their tireless efforts in resolving the JUSUN strike,” he said.

Adeniran further appealed for sustained engagement among stakeholders to achieve a lasting resolution to all outstanding issues.

With the suspension of the strike, normal judicial activities are expected to resume across courts in Osun State from Tuesday.
