The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has confirmed the withdrawal of 11,566 officers who were previously assigned to protect VIPs. This move follows a presidential directive.
Speaking during a meeting with senior police officers in Abuja, Egbetokun said the order gives him full authority to implement the recall, and no VIP will question it since it comes straight from the President.
He urged officers to stay professional, embrace community policing, and continue working around the clock to tackle criminal activities and ensure national security.
The IGP also reassured Nigerians that the police are collaborating closely with other security agencies to address ongoing security challenges.
Details are still emerging.
