Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State, came alive over the weekend as several support groups converged to back the presidential aspiration of Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim ahead of the 2027 general election.
Operating under different platforms, the groups declared Hashim “their son” and pledged unwavering support for his ambition, urging Nigerians to embrace what they described as a credible, inclusive, and unifying leadership project.
Members of the Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement and allied organizations said the gathering aimed to consolidate existing support structures, expand grassroots outreach, and strengthen political engagement across Kebbi State and beyond.
Muhammad Mustapha Yauri, leader of the movement in Kebbi State, emphasized that residents of Yauri Emirate, Hashim’s birthplace, consider it a collective responsibility to back him. Highlighting his multicultural background—a Kebbi indigene father and Yoruba mother—Yauri said this embodies national integration, unity, and inclusiveness, qualities Nigeria urgently needs at this stage of its democratic journey.
National Coordinator Abdulrazaq Hamzat described Hashim as a worthy son and brother, noting that his global exposure, competence, and business acumen uniquely position him to deliver transformative leadership.
“Hashim, a renowned global businessman, possesses the knowledge, experience, and international networks to reset Nigeria’s development trajectory and foster sustainable economic growth, innovation, and shared prosperity,” Hamzat said.
Chief of Staff Kamaldeen Sani Adebayo added that although Hashim has never held public office, his commitment to transparent, people-centered governance sets him apart.
The Kebbi State Coordinator assured supporters that mobilisation efforts would intensify across all local governments and social strata to broaden awareness and support for Hashim’s candidacy.
Women leaders, including Hajiya Hauwa, expressed optimism that a Hashim presidency would prioritize women’s welfare, particularly in rural areas, through inclusive governance and economic empowerment initiatives.
Representatives from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other pro-Hashim groups praised his vision and called for sustained grassroots engagement to ensure the success of his presidential bid.
Political analysts observing the event highlighted Hashim’s multicultural heritage, private-sector success, national outlook, and growing grassroots support as factors positioning him as a strong contender for the presidency.
