LASU Professor Appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor of University of Uyo

Professor Samuel Gbadebo Odewumi, a distinguished academic in Transport Planning and Policy at Lagos State University (LASU), has been appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Uyo.

The appointment was officially communicated in a letter dated December 15, 2025, signed by the University’s Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council, Mrs. Blossom Okorie.

According to the letter, the decision followed the approval of the Visitor to the University, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as conveyed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and was issued on behalf of the Chairman of the University’s Governing Council.

Professor Odewumi’s tenure as Acting Vice-Chancellor takes immediate effect and will continue until the selection and appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor is completed.

Reacting to the appointment, the Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, congratulated Odewumi, describing the elevation as well-deserved. She praised his impressive academic track record, strong administrative abilities, and significant contributions to scholarship in transport planning and policy.

Professor Olatunji-Bello expressed confidence that Odewumi’s extensive experience would contribute to stability, institutional growth, and the overall development of the University of Uyo.
