Disney has officially announced the stars of its highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Tangled, with Teagan Croft set to play Rapunzel and Milo Manheim cast as her charming counterpart, Flynn Rider. The news was confirmed on January 7, 2026, marking an exciting milestone for fans of the beloved 2010 animated film.
Teagan Croft as Rapunzel
Australian actress Teagan Croft will step into the iconic role of Rapunzel, bringing a fresh energy to the character made famous by Mandy Moore in the original animated movie. Croft first gained attention as a child actress in a theatrical adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird and appeared in the 2009 sci-fi film The Osiris Child.
Her breakout role came when she starred as Rachel Roth, a.k.a. White Raven, on the DC Universe superhero series Titans from 2018 to 2023. Croft has since appeared in the film True Spirit and is slated to star in upcoming projects including Alphas and Override.
Disney praised Croft for her ability to capture Rapunzel’s adventurous spirit, saying she will bring a modern twist to the beloved princess while honoring the original story.
Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider
Disney veteran Milo Manheim will portray Flynn Rider, Rapunzel’s witty and charming companion. Known for his role as Zed in the Disney Zombies franchise, which includes four films since 2018, Manheim brings extensive musical and acting experience to the role.
“Too grateful to put into words,” Manheim wrote on Instagram after the casting announcement. “I will do him justice I promise.”
The son of acclaimed actress Camryn Manheim, Manheim started acting at age six, appearing in numerous musicals and television projects. His notable credits include the 2023 Christmas musical Journey to Bethlehem, the Paramount+ series School Spirits, and live musical theater productions such as Little Shop of Horrors and Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl.
Production Details
The live-action Tangled will be directed by Michael Gracey, known for The Greatest Showman and Better Man. Gracey plans to incorporate significant musical elements into the film, maintaining the spirit of the original animated movie.
Kristin Burr, producer of Cruella, has joined the project, with the script written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. The adaptation was initially announced in December 2024, paused in April 2025, and resumed later that year with final screen tests in London.
While Scarlett Johansson was previously in talks to play Mother Gothel, Rapunzel’s villainous captor, she is no longer attached to the project.
The Legacy of Tangled
The original 2010 animated Tangled, starring Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $592.5 million worldwide. Fans can expect the live-action version to honor the story’s legacy while introducing new musical numbers, updated visuals, and a modern take on Rapunzel and Flynn Rider’s adventures.
“Teagan and Milo have the perfect chemistry to bring these characters to life,” a Disney spokesperson said. “We’re thrilled to bring this story back to the big screen for a new generation.”
The live-action Tangled promises to be a visually stunning, musically rich adaptation, blending Disney nostalgia with contemporary performances and fresh energy from its rising stars.
