The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Anambra State, George Moghalu, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use the upcoming off-cycle election to restore public confidence and redeem its image.
Moghalu made the remarks on Thursday during an interview with Channels Television, monitored by DAILY POST. The election is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, where incumbent Governor Charles Soludo seeks re-election for another four-year term.
Sixteen political parties, including the Labour Party, have been cleared to participate in the exercise.
“Let’s give INEC the benefit of the doubt. It would be unfair to write it off. INEC has the responsibility to deliver free, fair, and credible elections to the people of Anambra. This is an opportunity for INEC to redeem its image and restore confidence in our electoral system,” Moghalu said.
The LP candidate also addressed security concerns, noting that troublemakers, including members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), do not have the capacity to disrupt the election.
He appealed to security agencies to act professionally and ensure a safe environment for voters. “I’m certain that if security agencies do what is expected, we will have peace and a credible election,” he stated.
Moghalu’s remarks underscore the emphasis on both electoral integrity and public safety ahead of the Anambra governorship poll.
