Major Shake-up in Nigerian Navy as CNS Abbas Redeploys 65 Rear Admirals

The Nigerian Navy has undergone a significant reorganisation as Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, approved the appointment and redeployment of 65 Rear Admirals across various commands and institutions to enhance operational effectiveness and strengthen the service’s capacity to fulfil its constitutional mandate.

Notable postings include:

  • Rear Admiral Suleiman Abdullahi → Chief of Logistics, NHQ
  • Rear Admiral Kasim Bushi → Executive Director, International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION)
  • Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed → Commandant, National Defence College
  • Rear Admiral Musa Katagum → Chief of Operations, NHQ
  • Rear Admiral Hamza Ibrahim → Group Managing Director, Navy Holdings Limited (NHL)

In operational commands:

  • Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha → Western Naval Command (WNC)
  • Rear Admiral Chidozie Okehie → Eastern Naval Command (ENC)
  • Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim → Central Naval Command (CNC)

Several Rear Admirals were also posted to strategic institutions including the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), Defence Research and Development Bureau (DRDB), Naval War College Nigeria (NWCN), and National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS). Others took over leadership roles in Naval Engineering Services, Navy Holdings Limited, and NHQ directorates.

The CNS congratulated the newly appointed officers, urging them to rededicate themselves to duty and justify the confidence placed in them.

This shake-up represents one of the most extensive reorganisations in recent times and is aimed at strengthening operational readiness, improving administration, and ensuring effective service delivery across the Navy.
