In a significant move to enhance workers’ welfare and industrial harmony, Melsmore Marine Limited has signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN).
The agreement, formalized at Melsmore’s headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos, ensures improved working conditions and remuneration for unionized staff of the marine services company.
During the signing ceremony, MWUN President Comrade Francis Bunu Abi hailed the pact as a landmark achievement, noting it reflects Melsmore’s commitment to fair labour practices and employee welfare.
“No good industrial firm will neglect the welfare of its workers and the moral ethics of its status quo,” Bunu said. He emphasized that employee satisfaction is crucial to business success and praised Melsmore’s management for recognizing the direct link between worker welfare and productivity.
The union leader also commended the company’s recent decision to review workers’ salaries in line with rising living costs, stating that the wage adjustment would uplift morale and improve output among union employees.
“This mutual understanding marks a milestone in MWUN’s efforts to ensure fair wages, workplace harmony, and industrial peace in Nigeria’s maritime sector,” Bunu added, assuring ongoing collaboration between the union and Melsmore management.
The signing demonstrates a proactive approach to industrial relations, setting a model for other maritime companies on how employee welfare can drive growth and productivity.
