Timothée Chalamet Earns First Grammy Nomination for Bob Dylan Biopic Soundtrack

Timothée Chalamet, the acclaimed star of Marty Supreme and Dune, has officially added Grammy nominee to his ever-growing list of accolades. The 29-year-old actor earned a nomination for his work on the soundtrack of the 2024 Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, in the Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media category. The announcement came on Friday, November 7, ahead of the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, set to take place on February 1, 2026, at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.

Chalamet Channels Bob Dylan on Screen and in Song

In A Complete Unknown, Chalamet portrayed legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, capturing the musician’s rise in the 1960s American folk scene. Directed by James Mangold, the biopic earned widespread critical praise, with Chalamet receiving nominations for the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and winning a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance.

Notably, Chalamet performed all of Dylan’s songs himself, playing guitar and singing live on set. Co-stars, including Edward Norton as Pete Seeger and Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, also performed their own musical parts, emphasizing the film’s authentic sound.

“I wanted the music to feel real, raw, and connected to the era,” Chalamet said in a past interview. “Singing Dylan’s songs myself was an incredible challenge and an honor.”

Competing in the Visual Media Soundtrack Category

The Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media category features music from a variety of recent films and television projects. Alongside A Complete Unknown, other nominees include:

  • F1® The Album
  • KPop Demon Hunters
  • Sinners
  • Wicked

This nomination marks Chalamet’s first foray into the music-focused Grammy field, complementing his already impressive list of accolades for acting and producing.

Chalamet’s Musical Journey

Chalamet’s musical talents extend beyond this Bob Dylan biopic. In 2023, he showcased his vocal skills in Wonka, and older videos of him rapping have circulated online, highlighting his long-standing interest in music. In January 2025, he performed on Saturday Night Live as both host and musical guest, channeling Dylan in a medley of “Outlaw Blues”, “Three Angels”, and “Tomorrow Is a Long Time”.

His involvement in music is intertwined with his acting career, adding another layer of versatility to his growing resume.

Upcoming Projects

Beyond the Grammy nomination, Chalamet continues to lead in high-profile projects. He stars as both actor and producer in Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme, scheduled for a December 25, 2025 theatrical release, and is set to reprise his role in Dune: Part Three, continuing the blockbuster sci-fi saga.

With his first Grammy nomination now official, Timothée Chalamet cements his status as not only a critically acclaimed actor but also a talented musician capable of bridging the worlds of film and music. Fans and industry insiders alike are eagerly anticipating his continued success both on screen and in song.
