The Jigawa Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued 221 victims of human trafficking across the state in the past two years.
Commander Abdulladir Turajo made the disclosure during a one-day sensitisation campaign against human trafficking held in Kazaure on Friday. He said the victims have been successfully reunited with their families since the command’s establishment in July 2023.
Commander Turajo added that the agency has recorded two convictions over the period and conducted 175 sensitisation programmes in schools, communities, markets, places of worship, and motor parks throughout the state.
The exercise was organised in collaboration with the Jigawa State Ministry for Local Government and Community Development as part of a zonal grassroots campaign targeting all 27 Local Government Areas of Jigawa.
The programme is being implemented in three phases:
- Phase 1: Kazaure – covering 12 LGAs of the Northwest Zone (completed)
- Phase 2: Hadejia – covering 8 LGAs of the Northeast Zone
- Phase 3: Dutse – covering 7 LGAs of the Southwest Zone
The campaign aims to raise awareness and engage communities in the fight against human trafficking, with NAPTIP urging stakeholders to continue supporting efforts to protect vulnerable individuals.
