The Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund), Akintunde Sawyerr, has called on parents to encourage their children to benefit from the federal student loan program to pursue tertiary education.
A statement issued by Omojola Seun-Ojerinde on behalf of the Fund said Sawyerr made the appeal during a sensitization program in Ekiti State.
According to Sawyerr, President Bola Tinubu is committed to easing the financial burden of higher education on parents. He described the student loan scheme as “an opportunity for Nigerian students to further their education to the tertiary level.”
Speaking at the Palace of the Oore of Otun Ekiti and to the Paramount Ruler of Moba Land, Oba Adekunle Adeagbo, Sawyerr urged parents to support their children, especially those in public tertiary institutions, to participate in the Federal Government’s loan scheme.
“Nigerians are eager for knowledge. They are curious and driven to learn, and the student loan policy provides access and the opportunity to advance their education,” he said.
He highlighted the scheme’s growing popularity, noting that 12,000 applications were received within 24 hours, demonstrating its significant impact on educational access in the country.
